The Ionian or Major Scale
The Ionian (Major) scale softens and extends the Pentatonic scale. This is an essential scale for the jazz guitarist.
The Ionian scale consists of the following intervals Root, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and octave.
The following chord progressions are in the key of A Major . The A Ionian/Major scale consisting of the notes A B C# D E F# G# A’ can be used to solo over each progression.
