Group Captain and the Mandrakes are an instrumental surf band based out of Fredericksburg, VA. Made up of veteran local musicians, their collective résumé places their members in a variety of Surf, Punk and Funk bands ranging from The Amazing Coconauts, in the Phoenix area, to Swingin’ Utters in Santa Cruz, California, to The Cave Men and Nancy Katz & The Stray Dogs, in Northern Virginia, as well as Richard Greens Showtyme Band in Fredericksburg. Matt Lentz, the lead guitarist, has performed with national acts like The Fireballs (#1 Billboard hit Sugar Shack in ‘63, Bulldog), Deadbolt and Laramie Dean as well as with a wide variety of local bands, and is now delighted to be fronting Fredericksburg’s premier Surf Rock Party Band.
