In Japan, there is a name synonymous with ukulele. That name is simply known as “Iwao.” Iwao had a very successful career as a guitar player, producing many albums with that first instrument. He attended a performance by Ohta-san and a new love for the ukulele grew rapidly in his heart. He now focuses his efforts into his awesome ukulele playing. There is no bigger ukulele star in Japan than Iwao.

Jake Shimabukuro
Jake Shimabukuro was born on November 3, 1976, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Having learned to play the ukulele from the young age of four, Shimabukuro marked his professional debut in 1998 after becoming a member of the group, Pure Heart, a few years after graduating from high school. Shimabukuro’s appearance dramatically altered traditional perceptions of ukulele music. Playing with incredible technique and great feeling, he covers all types of music from Classical music to Jazz, Rock, Blues, Funk and of course, improvisation that comes naturally to the ukulele, Shimabukuro continues to be a source of inspiration to the Hawaiian music scene.
James Clem
As a teenager learning the guitar in the suburbs of Los Angeles, James became interested in blues around 1966; while listening to many of the great originals such as Bukka White, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb and Johnny Shines, at the Ash Grove folk club in L.A. He formed one of the city’s first blues bands, playing a primitive Hubert Sumlin-style lead, and slide guitar in a Muddy Waters/Elmore James vein.
