Laika & The Cosmonauts was founded in 1987 by Mikko Lankinen (guitar), Janne Haavisto (drums), Matti Pitsinki (organ and guitar) and Tom Nyman (bass). The Finnish instrumentalists’ first album, C’mon Do The Laika, was released in 1988. Since then, the band has released five more studio albums, all with the same line-up.

July marks the annual ritual when ukulele fans head to the waterfront at Lake Anne and enjoy the tranquil tunes when the plaza hosts its popular Lake Anne Ukulele Festival. The free festival features performances by several internationally known and local ukulele musicians, music demonstrations, open to the public jam session, festival vendors, and other family friendly activities. This festival is the only ukulele festival in Northern Virginia, which has brought thousands of people to Lake Anne from across the region for this event.

The Langley Ukulele Ensemble is Canada’s premier ukulele ensemble and has established the City of Langley as the “Ukulele Capital of Canada.” It is based out of Langley, British Columbia, Canada. Composed of 20 young musicians, aged 13–21, the ensemble performs 50-80 concerts a year, in their community, regionally, as well as traveling across Canada, to Florida, Texas, California, the Pacific Northwest, Japan and Hawaii. The Langley Ukulele Ensemble is now beginning its 26th year under the direction of Peter Luongo. During this time the group has developed a reputation at home and abroad for excellence in musical performance. The 23 ensemble members range in age from 13 to 22 years, and all attend either elementary, middle, secondary, or post secondary institutions.

The Las Cruces UkeFest is hosted by the Las Cruces Ukes, a non-profit community group of ukulele enthusiasts in southern New Mexico. The club formed in 2013 and has since given over 70 performances around the community, offered several quality workshops with instructors like Mark Baker and Jim D’Ville, and added both a kids and teen club. In 2017, they held their first full-scale festival to rave reviews and a sold-out venue! For 2018, they’ve arranged for a larger theatre to fit all the ukulele lovers we expect to host.

The Las Cruces Ukes, a non-profit community group of ukulele enthusiasts, meet every week to hone our skills, prepare for performances, and have a good time playing the ukulele. Practices are Thursday evenings with a Strum for Fun group at 5:15 and the Performance Group at 6:30. We also host a Kids Club and a Teen Club.

Maker Of Custom Built Guitars In The Selmer / Maccaferri Style Established in 1970, I am a luthier specialising in high quality Selmer Maccaferri style guitars, as famously used by Django Reinhardt. I make Selmer style guitars in all the original configurations. i.e. 14 fret to body oval hole model with 670mm scale length, 12 fret to body oval hole model with 640mm scale length (the so-called "transitional" model), 12 fret to body D hole model (with or without the internal false back, sides, and reflector), with 640mm scale length, plus a 14 fret to body D hole model with 670mm scale length. This model was not produced by Selmer but has become popular in recent years.
